After receiving an Offence Notice for a traffic violation, also known as a traffic ticket, you may choose to request an Early Resolution Meeting.

An early resolution meeting is an opportunity to speak privately with a prosecutor prior to a trial.

At the early resolution meeting, you will have the opportunity to discuss:

  • Outstanding disclosure
  • Upfront Work
  • Mitigating factors
  • Resolution position

At the resolution meeting, the prosecutor may offer a resolution position, or they may choose to proceed on the charge as it stands.

After the resolution meeting, you will be given a next court date. The purpose of this next court date is to either enter into the resolution or to have a trial.

A request for an early resolution meeting must be made within 15 days of receiving your offence notice. You may request an early resolution meeting by following the instructions on the back of your ticket. This option is not available if you have received a summons for a traffic violation.

If you do not attend your scheduled early resolution date, you may be convicted of the
offence in your absence.
