If you were convicted on a traffic ticket and want to have the matter reopened by the court, you may complete a reopening application.

A re-opening application may be available for those who:

  • Received an offence notice
  • Were convicted at no fault of their own
  • Did not receive a Notice of Trial or Early Resolution date

To request a reopening, you must complete a “Reopening Application/Affidavit” form explaining the reason for the request.

The reopening application will be reviewed then be reviewed by a court official. If the court official is satisfied that you were convicted through no fault of your own, the conviction will be struck, and an early resolution meeting or trial date will be scheduled.

You must submit your application for reopening within 15 days of becoming aware of your conviction; otherwise, the application may not be granted.

Then, you must call the courthouse 3 days after submitting your application for reopening to determine if your application for reopening has been granted or denied.

If your application to reopen is granted, you will receive an early resolution or trial date. If the reopening is not granted, the conviction will remain.
